Job summary

AbbVie’s MPDD function seeks a Principal Scientist II in computational chemistry to shape the vision of computational sciences and to guide stage-appropriate models that accelerate drug candidates. You will lead, pilot, and implement advanced quantum mechanics, molecular dynamics, and AI/ML workflows with strong collaboration across medicinal chemistry, data science, and formulation science teams.

Qualifications

• PhD/MS/BS in chemistry or related field with extensive computational chemistry experience
• Experience applying computational chemistry to medicinal chemistry and drug discovery
• Strong record of developing and applying computational models across discovery stages

Responsibilities

• Lead computational chemistry efforts across lead optimization and de-risking
• Develop and benchmark computational models and workflows
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate computational tools into design workflows
• Communicate rationale for model choices to technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor and develop junior scientists in matrixed environments
• Stay updated with literature and external collaborations to advance strategy
