AbbVie Product Development Science & Technology (PDS&T) is seeking a Principal Research Scientist, Peptide Chemistry to conduct late-stage development and commercialization of peptides, from registration through commercialization and the product lifecycle. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a proven track record in peptide manufacturing development, to work in a multi-functional team environment at our North Chicago, IL location.
Key Responsibilities:
· Contribute to and/or lead cross-functional project teams related to manufacturing process development, process characterization/justification, transfer of technology to manufacturing sites, and support manufacturing activities for peptides and other modalities:
o Provide leadership in a matrixed team setting, acting as an SME for peptide processes, engaging with cross-functional groups and stakeholders, and contributing to AbbVie's peptide manufacturing strategies.
o Define project strategies, responsibilities, and timelines.
o Author and review regulatory documents, lab data, technical memos, and reports.
· Engage in multi-disciplinary interactions with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, and solid-state scientists.
· Interface with external groups such as Manufacturing Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance.
Responsibilities:
· Function as a principal investigator, generating original ideas and demonstrating creative problem-solving to achieve project goals. Make significant contributions through lab activities. Be responsible for project science within your expertise on one or more teams.
· Author and review technical reports, batch records, and regulatory documents related to Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control (CMC). Lead publications, presentations, and patent inventions.
· Potentially mentor and supervise team members, evaluate performance, and ensure effective team functioning.
· Generate new scientific proposals, lead efforts, and respond to scientific or regulatory advances with new strategies.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree or higher with 14+ years of experience, Master’s with 12+ years, or PhD with 6+ years in organic chemistry focusing on peptide synthesis. Less experienced candidates may be considered for other roles.
· Experience in peptide process development and commercialization.
· Broad expertise in organic chemistry, mechanistic understanding, compound purification, control strategy development, and analytical methods (HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS, NMR).
· Proven scientific communication skills, publications, presentations, and patents.
· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for cross-functional collaboration.
