Principal R&D Engr/Scientist - Separations Specialist for Gas Processing, Hydrogen & Adsorbents Development
An outstanding career opportunity has arisen for a Principal R&D Engineer / Scientist within Honeywell UOP's Research and Development organization, based in Des Plaines, IL. This role offers a chance to contribute to the advancement of technology in Honeywell UOP's Gas Processing and HSP sectors, aligning with the company's commitment to sustainable solutions and growth of key technology platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and drive New Product Development (NPD) initiatives within the Gas Processing, Carbon Capture, Hydrogen, and Adsorbents platforms, focusing on process and material development to meet customer needs.
- Utilize best practices in project management to ensure technology delivery within timelines and budgets.
- Oversee pilot plant experiments using model-based design of experiments (MBDOE) to accelerate technology development and foster innovation.
- Collaborate with business units to support both existing operations and growth strategies.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Analytical, and Characterization teams to develop new products effectively.
- Monitor industry developments and lead projects to address technological gaps.
- Support sales and customer engagement initiatives to maximize value from technology offerings.
- Assist in critical customer interactions as needed.
- Identify innovative solutions and prepare invention disclosures.
- Mentor less experienced scientists and engineers, promoting growth and knowledge sharing.
Minimum Requirements
- B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- 10 years of R&D experience
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in chemical engineering or chemistry
- Strong understanding of chemistry and chemical engineering applications in process, catalyst, and adsorbent development
- Experience in experimental design and statistical data analysis
- Familiarity with Six Sigma principles; Green Belt certification preferred, Black Belt highly desirable
- Business insight and entrepreneurial mindset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to present effectively to internal and external stakeholders
- Networking skills and relationship building
- Willingness to work across cultures and time zones
- Ability to travel approximately 30% domestically and internationally
