Job description

Hazen and Sawyer (Hazen), an engineering firm focused on all things water, seeks a positive, highly motivated, and creative marketing communications professional to join our Southeast Region proposal/business development team. This role involves working with a team of engineers, scientists, graphics professionals, and proposal development professionals to develop best-in-class business proposals, presentations, infographics, newsletters, and other marketing materials in a deadline-driven environment.

The proposal coordinator leads the proposal development process and collaborates with technical staff to prepare concise, compelling, and compliant narratives, as well as associated interview presentations. Responsibilities include participating in strategy and messaging meetings, developing storyboards and layouts, distributing action items, writing proposal sections, and monitoring task completion. The position also entails maintaining tools, systems, and information that support the development of efficient and quality proposals and marketing materials.

The ideal candidate will be based in Hazen’s Southeast regional headquarters in Hollywood, Florida, or in the Orlando or Tampa office. We are also open to candidates anywhere in the U.S. within driving distance to one of Hazen’s offices. The successful candidate will join Hazen in a hybrid office/remote work environment.

Job Requirements:

Attributes of our ideal candidate:

  • Able to facilitate client analysis, win plan, proposal, and interview strategy meetings.
  • Can independently draft extensive written proposal content (e.g., cover letters, executive summaries, qualification introductions, resumes, project descriptions).
  • Energetic self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to creatively communicate complex information to a range of audiences using clear text and eye-catching layouts.
  • Demonstrated initiative, follow-through, research skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to develop features, benefits, and proofs to support messaging strategies.
  • Team player with the ability to work well with all types and levels of professionals and leverage their talents.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Degree in marketing/communications, advertising, journalism, or closely associated studies from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of related work experience (A/E/C a plus).
  • Understanding of planning, engineering, and construction business; experience in the water consulting industry is a plus.
  • Demonstrable writing, grammar, and editing/proofreading skills, along with organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Experience in the development of RFP-compliant and compelling proposals and presentations.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of frequent and competing deadlines with professionalism, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work beyond regular working hours to meet deadlines.
  • Strong personal accountability and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Strong expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign); Illustrator and Photoshop knowledge is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
