The Principal, Project Manager is accountable for the successful delivery of large, complex, and strategically significant IT projects or programs with limited managerial oversight. The role converts desired business results into an integrated delivery approach, directs cross‑functional and third‑party teams, resolves advanced delivery issues, and provides decision‑ready reporting to sponsors and governance bodies. The incumbent operates as an internal expert in project delivery, coaches and delegates work for less experienced professionals, and influences project management policies, practices, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery of large, complex IT projects or coordinated workstreams from initiation through transition to operations and benefits realization.
- Develop the delivery strategy and integrated plan, including scope, schedule, milestones, dependencies, resources, budget, quality, communications, procurement, and organizational change activities.
- Clarify objectives and success measures with executive sponsors, business owners, technology leaders, and control functions; maintain alignment as conditions change.
- Establish fit‑for‑purpose governance, decision rights, escalation paths, controls, documentation standards, and reporting cadence appropriate to project risk and complexity.
- Lead matrixed teams and vendors across functions, locations, and time zones; delegate work, review deliverables, coach lower‑level professionals, and remove delivery barriers.
- Anticipate and resolve advanced, ambiguous, or cross‑functional issues. Develop options, assess tradeoffs, and present clear recommendations for timely decisions.
- Manage project risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, and changes. Ensure owners, response actions, due dates, and escalation criteria are defined and monitored.
- Monitor financial performance, resource capacity, vendor commitments, and forecast accuracy; identify variances and drive corrective action.
- Integrate security, privacy, compliance, architecture, operational readiness, and business continuity requirements into the delivery lifecycle.
- Provide concise, evidence‑based status reporting and executive communications that address progress, decisions, risks, financials, dependencies, and outcome readiness.
- Improve project management methods, templates, metrics, and lesson‑learned practices; influence adoption of consistent delivery standards across teams.

- Strong executive presence, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, decision framing, and written and verbal communication skills.

- Working knowledge of IT governance, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, architecture, service transition, procurement, and vendor management considerations.
