Job summary

Prattwhitney is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to lead all program phases from inception to completion at our Largo, FL location. You will oversee the administrative and operational aspects of projects while ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.

The ideal candidate will have a STEM degree, significant experience in project engineering, and an active Secret security clearance. Benefits include medical insurance, vacation, and a generous 401(k) plan.

Position: Principal Project Engineer – Onsite – Largo, FL

Security Clearance: Secret (Active, transferable, U.S. citizenship required)

Responsibilities
  • Direct all program phases from inception to completion while ensuring schedule and budget adherence.
  • Plan, oversee, and coordinate administrative and operational aspects of projects.
  • Act as liaison between project management, planning, technical teams, and line management.
  • Monitor and resolve project issues, ensuring productivity, quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Direct technical and administrative work of project employees.
  • Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test.
  • Manage technical performance of program teams (5‑10 or 20‑40 small programs).
  • Prepare and maintain project plans, budgets and staffing requirements.
  • Lead cross‑functional engineers (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Software) to deliver high‑quality solutions.
  • Interpret customer technical requirements and drive them into development and test for prototype and delivery.
  • Drive program schedules and track budget commitments using Earned Value Management Systems.
  • Interface with management, suppliers, customers and technical design teams.
  • Provide timely communication to management and customers.
  • Perform engineering activities related to design, development, procurement and testing.
  • Lead technology development programs guiding products through Technology Readiness Level process.
  • Lead test activities for components, conduct benchmark reviews, and drive system and hardware development.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Technical Program Manager, or Integrated Product Team Lead.
  • Working knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines with a focus on communications systems development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present to senior leadership.
  • Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree and minimum 5 years.
  • Active, transferable Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Active DoD TOP SECRET security clearance.
  • Progressive leadership in the design, development, test, and integration of electromechanical assemblies with embedded software.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies for hardware and software development.
  • Cost Account Manager experience.
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities and deliver successful outcomes in critical situations.
  • Experience leading projects and teams in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Understanding of configuration management process.
  • Project management skills using MS Office, MS Project, EVMS.
  • Risk identification and mitigation with support from senior leadership.

Compensation

Salary range: 107,500USD–204,500USD.
