Job Summary

Principal Project Engineer – Level 3 located in Promontory, UT. The Project Engineer is responsible for establishing and executing all technical aspects of the development, qualification, and production of a hypersonic rocket motor. This role manages design, engineering & manufacturing development (EMD), qualification, and follow‑on production phases, and may scale up products, processes, tooling, and facilities for low‑rate and high‑rate production.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate across IPTs with fellow PEs on design, process, and quality of the product.
  • Develop program execution plans and work closely with the Program Office.
  • Serve as the technical POC and interface with the customer regularly.
  • Work with a wide range of positions both within and outside of NGC.
  • Support production operations (manufacturing and quality).
  • Develop, coordinate, and allocate requirements.
  • Assemble and develop efficient cross‑functional teams to execute plans.
  • Identify design concepts and mature them into solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Develop master schedules, integrated logic flows, work breakdown structures, and assist in program cost estimates.
  • Coordinate and implement design and analysis activities.
  • Develop test plans and coordinate testing with test engineers.
  • Identify risks/mitigations and track to closure in the Risk Tracker.
  • Lead the coordination and conduct of milestone reviews to senior leadership and customers.
  • Lead problem and failure investigations.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Prepare internal and external presentations.
  • Travel: 5%–10% expected.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
  • 3 years of experience in rocket motor design.
  • Ability to perform solid modeling using NX.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience working with energetic materials in compliance with U.S. DOJ regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements.
  • Management of engineering scope related to budgeting and participation in EVMS evaluations.
  • Experience with the proposal process.
  • Knowledge and experience in System Engineering tools and disciplines.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and design for manufacturability.
  • Curiosity about all exciting developments with the Northrop Grumman Space Sector.
Benefits

Primary level salary range: $98,400 – $147,600. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and, for VP or Director positions, long‑term incentives.
