Job summary

3MD Inc. in Redmond, WA, is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to drive the design, integration, and delivery of complex engineering initiatives across their full lifecycle.

You will blend technical expertise with program management to ensure performance, quality, safety, and scalability while aligning with strategy. You will lead design evaluations, develop execution plans, monitor progress and budgets, coordinate cross-functional teams, and secure resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • 7+ years of experience managing multiple projects within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating across engineering disciplines and with external contractors.

Summary of Position:

The Principal Project Engineer is responsible for driving the successful design, integration, and delivery of complex engineering projects across their full lifecycle. This role blends technical expertise and industry best practices with strong program-management discipline, ensuring solutions meet performance, quality, safety, and scalability requirements while aligning with organizational strategy.

Essential Functions:
  • Facilitate engineering design evaluations to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility
  • Develop, implement, and communicate operational plans for project execution
  • Monitor project progress, performance, and adherence to schedules and budgets
  • Review industry policies and procedures to ensure compliance with data accuracy, security, and regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate technical support throughout the engineering process
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and coordinate disciplines to achieve project goals
  • Identify, develop, and secure resources necessary for project completion
  • Prepare engineering design reviews, work specifications, schedules, budgets, and forecasts
  • Select appropriate materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors
  • Take proactive action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays

Work Environment:

This position is based in a professional office setting and regularly utilizes workplace technology, including computers, smartphones, multifunction printers, cloud-based filing systems, and collaboration tools.

Physical Demands:

This role requires physical capabilities that support the successful execution of key responsibilities. The employee regularly engages in verbal and written communication with colleagues and clients to address project-related inquiries and must be able to convey accurate information clearly and efficiently. The position involves remaining seated at a workstation for approximately 75% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access equipment, supplies, and shared resources. Daily tasks include consistent use of computers and standard office technology such as keyboards, printers, and multifunction devices. The role also involves transporting equipment boxes weighing up to 25 pounds within the building and to other offsite locations as needed for project support.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required.

7+ years of experience
