Job description

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager Technical to own the direction of a portfolio of security products with company-wide security, risk, and compliance impact, and to own one of those products directly.

You will define how our products come together: where each one begins and ends, which capabilities belong where, and what the single experience looks like for a builder or a security team moving across them. You will also hold the product function for our most widely adopted product, so the portfolio direction stays anchored to a real backlog rather than becoming strategy at a distance.

This role operates where the business opportunity and the product strategy are not yet defined. You will often need to establish what the problem is before proposing what to build. You will influence engineering priorities, partner-team roadmaps, and security strategy across multiple VP organizations, without owning those teams.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own portfolio direction. Define how the products relate to each other, where capabilities belong, and what we stop doing. Make the calls on whether a new capability extends an existing product or justifies a new one.
  • Own a flagship product. Hold the product function for one product directly, including the roadmap and the ranked backlog as single prioritizer.
  • Define strategy where none exists. Establish the problem, the customer, and the multi-year direction in spaces that are ambiguous today, and bring clarity others can execute against.
  • Influence across organizations. Build the partnerships our products depend on across security, compliance, legal, and builder-tooling teams in other VP organizations, and reach agreement on approach and sequencing without authority.
  • Set the measurement bar. Define what outcome we are moving and hold the portfolio to it, replacing activity metrics with evidence that security posture improved.
  • Develop the product function. Raise the bar on product management practice on the team, mentor product and program managers, and participate in hiring.
A day in the life

You will move between horizons. In the same day you may resolve a boundary question between two products, review a specification with a senior engineer, and reset expectations with a partner team whose roadmap ours depends on.

You will spend meaningful time outside our organization, because most of what limits us is a dependency or a relationship we have not built yet. You will write the documents that make ambiguous, contested decisions reviewable by senior leadership, and you will own the outcome of those decisions.

About the team

We are a team of product managers, program managers, engineers, and security engineers building the products that make security the default rather than a gate. Our portfolio spans three things: preventing issues at the point code is written, assuring that controls are implemented and evidenced, and turning security signals into risk intelligence that tells leaders which risks are worth their attention. Each product has one named owner for what we build and why, and one named owner for delivery, so ownership is unambiguous by design.

Diverse Experiences

Amazon Security values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn't followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don't let it stop you from applying.
