Job summary

Okta is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to architect, build, and scale data platforms that drive product analytics and business insights. You’ll partner with Product Engineering, analytics, and data science teams to ensure reliable data capture and accessible analytics.

You will lead data modeling, quality, governance, and contracts, mentor senior engineers, and push for modern lakehouse architectures to support Okta’s AI-informed product strategy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in a data engineering role, with senior/lead capacity; Federal government compliance experience is highly desirable.
• Expertise in product behavioral data engineering, telemetry data, and lifecycle metrics.
• Proven collaboration with Product Engineering teams to instrument data collection.
• Strong proficiency with SQL, ETL/ELT tools, and modern data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and evolve high-scale data solutions that serve as the reference architecture for the organization.
• Develop data quality frameworks, monitoring, anomaly detection, and alerting with governance and lineage tracking.
• Drive adoption of consistent data modeling, naming conventions, and metric governance across data teams.
• Lead cross-functional technical initiatives to accelerate delivery and harden data systems.
• Navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions balancing short-term delivery with long-term investment.
• Champion Data Contracts and schema evolution for reliability across global product teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a data-driven engineering culture.
• Stay at the forefront of data landscape with emerging technologies and practices.
