Job summary

Okta’s Data Engineering team is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to architect, build, and scale data platforms used across the organization.

You will collaborate with product engineers, analytic engineers, data analysts and data scientists to ensure reliable data availability and quality, enabling insights drive adoption and growth.

You will mentor engineers, lead cross-functional initiatives, and shape the long-term technical direction for data systems at Okta.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in a data engineering role with senior/lead experience.
• Experience with product behavioral data and telemetry data.
• Experience partnering with Product Engineering for instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and evolve high scale data solutions for reference architecture.
• Develop data quality frameworks, monitoring, anomaly detection, and governance.
• Drive adoption of consistent data modeling patterns and naming conventions.
• Lead cross-functional technical initiatives across data verticals.
• Navigate ambiguity and balance short-term delivery with long-term infra.
• Champion Data Contracts and schema evolution across global teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster data-driven decision making.
• Stay at the forefront of data technologies to guide long-term direction.
