Job summary

Aureos in Massachusetts is seeking a Principal Primary Design Engineer for our Energy division to lead substations design on clean energy projects. You will coordinate with site teams, review tender information, and ensure designs meet project timelines and KPI targets.

The role requires extensive experience in substations design, CAD and BIM tools, and a Chartered engineer status is desirable. We offer a supportive environment, strong learning opportunities, and a generous compensation package.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent as minimum; BSc/BEng preferred.
• IEng or CEng chartership desirable.
• Experience in CAD tools and BIM environment.
• 5+ years in substations design; 8+ for Senior; 12+ for Principal.
• Knowledge of HSE statutes.
• Knowledge of electrical works standards and regulations.
• Knowledge of transformers, switchgear, batteries, cabling, earthing and lighting standards.

Responsibilities

• Actively drive safety by design and contribute to hazard review meetings.
• Carry out site surveys and coordinate work with site teams as required.
• Review and propose concept and base designs based on tender information.
• Design and review general arrangement diagrams, substation layouts, earthing layouts, and cable routes.
• Create design and equipment technical specifications.
• Ensure delivery of designs on time and to KPI targets.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For The Following

• Actively drive safety by design and contribute to hazard review meetings.
• Carry out site surveys and coordinate work with site teams as required.
• Review and propose concept and base designs based on tender information.
• Design and review of general arrangement diagrams, substation layouts, earthing layouts, elevations, CDM drawings, cable routes and containment, single line diagrams, AC & DC installation drawings and studies.
• Create design and equipment technical specifications.
• Ensure performance is in line with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for on-time delivery, requirements management and right-first time.
• Ensure design work is delivered to the expected quality and meeting KPI targets.
• Ensure design work is delivered on time as per the project timelines.
• Ensure design work is delivered in line with projects work information and employer requirements.
• Ensure design work is delivered in line with applicable standards and specifications.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent is a minimum. BSc., BEng. or equivalent is desirable.
• IEng or CEng chartership status is desirable.
• Experience in using CAD tools and working in BIM environment.
• 5+ years' experience in substations design. 8+ years' experience for Senior title. 12+ years' experience for Principle title.

• Knowledge of transformers, switchgear, batteries, cabling, earthing and lighting standards and regulations.
