Job summary

Fluxx is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead architecture and shape the engineering roadmap for a scalable grantmaking platform. This role is hands-on, bridging backend Rails with frontend React, and collaborating with senior leaders to deliver cross-cutting initiatives.

You will guide technical direction, mentor engineers, and advocate for AI-assisted development while delivering high-quality, tested code across the full stack. This is a remote, full-time role in the United States.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with senior leadership in a SaaS platform.
• Deep experience as a full-stack engineer with backend Rails and frontend React involvement.
• Ability to weigh trade-offs and choose architecture over template solutions.
• Comfort presenting opinions and engaging in architectural discussions.
• Strong communication with product, design, QA, and infra teams.
• Proven track record in building high-performance web apps and documenting code paths.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and implementation of major platform initiatives.
• Make architectural decisions with clear trade-offs and rationale.
• Provide technical leadership across scoping, design, implementation, code review, rollout and maintenance.
• Collaborate with Directors, Principal Engineers, infra, product, and QA to drive decisions.
• Design and implement user-facing and backend features across the platform.
• Produce high-quality, well-tested code and champion SDLC best practices.
• Mentor engineers and raise the team's architectural literacy.
• Champion AI-assisted development workflows and responsible deployment.
