Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking a hands-on engineer to own the platform's monitoring and alerting strategy, supporting current capabilities and evolving them for future use. You will design and maintain robust monitoring across services, improve observability, and collaborate with development teams and internal customers.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of software experience, strong Linux, and skills in Python, Terraform, and Ansible, plus experience with Airflow, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS or Azure.

  • Build automation to support the configuration, testing, and deployment of software and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in a variety of areas to drive the success of our developers, business users, and clients.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and partner with technical product owners to define service roadmap.

Job description

We are looking for a hands-on engineer to join our team and own the platform's monitoring and alerting strategy. This strategy includes supporting the platform's current monitoring capabilities in addition to evolving them for future use.

What you might work on:

  • Design and engineer one or more application services, including workflow automation, messaging/queuing systems, application security, and ETL

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of experience developing software solutions
  • 5+ years of experience developing modern software-driven infrastructure and/or platform services
  • Experience designing, implementing, and/or supporting workflow automation systems, messaging/queuing systems, and/or ETL frameworks
  • Comfortable troubleshooting vendor software systems
  • Deep familiarity with Linux and related technologies
  • Familiarity with Windows and related technologies
  • Experience developing software in Python (or equivalent), Terraform (or equivalent), and Ansible (or equivalent)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate complex concepts to various audiences helping them to understand the benefits of technologies and recommended course of action
  • Experience with any of the following: Airflow, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure
  • Working knowledge of security best practices for SDLC (e.g., the Secure Software Development Framework)
  • Experience working in or with an SRE or DevOps team
  • Experience with agile/scrum methodologies
  • Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Certification or equivalent
