Job summary

City of Goodyear Economic Development seeks a Principal Planner to lead complex urban planning projects, including rezones and long-range policy work. You will analyze cases, prepare staff reports, and present findings to the Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council, and stakeholders.

The role also involves mentoring junior planners and coordinating with internal divisions to improve development outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related field.
Minimum five years of municipal planning experience.
Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Manage complex and sensitive planning cases to support long-range objectives.
Represent the City on committees and task forces, coordinating with partners.
Coach and train junior planners, reviewing work and guiding development.
Prepare and deliver presentations to Planning & Zoning Commission, Council, and stakeholders.
Conduct site visits and field assessments to verify conditions and inform findings.
Engage applicants and property owners to clarify requirements and maintain transparent communication.
Contribute to policy and guideline refinement to improve development outcomes.
