Job summary

Raytheon’s Hardware Electrical Engineering Team seeks experienced engineers to design, analyze, test, and document power conversion circuitry for circuit cards used in high-voltage, high-power applications. You will lead development from requirements through integration testing and guide junior engineers in layout and testing.

The role emphasizes 3-phase inverter studies, sensor interfacing, and controller circuitry with a focus on onboard power end use.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in STEM and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or advanced degree with 5+ years.
  • Design, analysis, test, and/or simulation experience with motor types such as Brushed, BLDC or PMSM is a plus.
  • Experience with analog electronics design (FETs/BJTs, op-amps, filters, termination, comparators).
  • Experience in a lab setting with oscilloscopes, DMMs, frequency generators, power supplies, and DAQ systems.
  • Familiarity with SiC/GaN in power electronics designs.
  • Design considerations for voltages > 400V and power > 10kW; three-phase power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion circuitry (3-phase inverters, sensor interfacing, controller circuits).
  • Hands-on drafting and circuit card level design.
  • Lead circuit card development from requirements to integration testing.

Job description

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling - to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

Raytheon's Hardware Electrical Engineering Team is looking for experienced engineers who have electronics knowledge to support the design and test of electronic products and systems. Our bread and butter are all things "circuit cards", and we want you to help us blaze the path!

We're growing fast and we want you to grow with us! We're expanding our engineering organization dramatically to meet exciting customer demand, and we're actively looking for engineers who bring strong foundational skills and a passion for solving hard problems. Industry experience in defense? Not required - we'll invest in you. If you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to talk.

What You Will Do
  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion (and related analog) circuitry. This circuitry will dominantly involve 3 phase inverter design, sensor interfacing and controller circuits. Main emphasis is on board-mounted power end use applications.
  • Hands on drafting & designing at a circuit card level.
  • Help to see circuit card development through its design phases, from requirements definition through initial integration testing.
  • Drive to meet schedule concerns. Define schedules for circuit level tasking.
  • Guide ECAD drafters through layout and routing activities, with moderate support from senior engineers. Assist in layer stackup definition.
  • Lead small teams & participate as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) on Controls Hardware Electronics.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Advanced degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Design, analysis, test, and/or simulation experience with one or more of the following motor types is a plus: Brushed, BLDC or PMSM.
  • Experience using tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, or other similar tools.
  • Experience with analog electronics design, including at least one of the following: FETs/BJTs, op-amp, high/low/band pass filters, clock/data termination, and comparator circuits.
  • Experience working in a lab setting and/or using lab tools such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, frequency generators, power supplies and Data Acquisition Systems.
  • Familiarity with wide bandgap devices (SiC, GaN) in power electronics designs.
  • Design considerations for voltages > 400V and/or power > 10kW. Three-phase power systems, power factor control, and inverter/rectifier development.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A self-starter, a quick learner, be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills. Should have an appreciation for how successful teams are structured.
  • Experience communicating and documenting technical topics at the small team level.
  • Experience in any one of the following:
    • Simulators such as SIMPLIS or SABER, or Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, and/or Hyperlynx.
    • Multi-level three phase Inverter Design for HV applications
    • Multi-isolated power systems design and component selection
    • Hardware in the loop testing setup and design experience
    • Military specifications.
    • Program management tools such as Earned Value.
