Job summary

BigHat Biosciences is seeking a Principal ML Scientist in San Mateo to advance state-of-the-art ML-driven antibody design. You will lead model development, contribute to strategy, and work with biology and engineering teams to accelerate therapeutics.

You will publish and present results while mentoring junior staff, aiming to push the platform toward scalable, AI-first drug discovery with real-world impact.

Qualifications

• PhD in ML/CS or hard sciences with 5+ years of post-graduate experience applying novel ML methods.
• Publications in major ML conferences or journals showing a track record in industry.
• Strong Python and PyTorch proficiency with good software engineering practices.
• Excellent communication and biomedical domain knowledge for cross-functional work.
• Experience with ML-driven protein engineering and drug development is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement next-generation generative models of antibody sequence and structure, and predictive models of antibody properties on large proprietary datasets.
• Provide leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to ML and data science team members.
• Help set strategy for future ML research aligned with BigHat programs and drug development challenges.
• Develop de novo design methods for generating initial hits to challenging therapeutic targets.
• Collaborate with engineering and biology teams to deploy models to accelerate therapeutics programs.
