Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Principal to define mechanical design-basis expectations for gas, coal, and renewable plant retrofit and new-generation projects. You will coordinate with AE and EPC teams, specify rotating and static equipment, piping, and structures, and support RFx and vendor submissions.

Responsibilities include design basis development, device selection, procurement specs, and lifecycle support, with focus on safety, reliability, and regulatory

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related engineering experience with ABET-accredited degree.
• PE license preferred for U.S. state; ABET credentials noted.
• Experience with gas, coal and renewable power plants and plant integration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and document mechanical design basis for plant equipment (turbines, HRSGs, boilers, pumps, piping).
• Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and engineering calculations.
• Prepare procurement specs and RFx deliverables; interface with OEMs.
• Support construction, commissioning and startup activities; site inspections and punch lists.
• Ensure compliance with ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, IEEE and safety requirements.
