Job description

Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for mechanical engineering and technical tasks supporting the design and construction of multi-million dollar modernization programs. Your work will include planning, design, analysis, and engineering inputs into the construction and maintenance of chemical plant facilities. You will interpret process flow diagrams created by chemical engineers to specify mechanical equipment that meets required temperature and pressure ranges. You will also provide technical oversight during the field installation and commissioning of equipment.

This position demands a high level of technical competence in applying mechanical engineering principles to develop new capabilities or solutions for challenging modernization problems.

You will perform one or more of the following mechanical engineering functions:

  1. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to perform plant and project engineering tasks such as selecting construction materials and methods, writing specifications, supervising and preparing mechanical drawings, controlling costs, and managing work to meet project schedules.
  2. Conduct mechanical engineering analyses for systems like steam, hydraulic, pumping/piping, HVAC, machinery design and layout, process cooling and heating, storage tanks, vessels, inspection, and repair.
  3. Inspect existing facilities, including buildings, equipment, and pipelines, to assess integrity and safety, and recommend modifications as needed.
  4. Support the development of plans and schedules for construction phases, ensuring availability of materials, equipment, and personnel.
  5. Ensure work complies with plans, specifications, good construction practices, and budget during execution.
  6. Create detailed project proposals, scopes of work, and estimates.
  7. Review and approve design packages from equipment suppliers and design firms, providing constructability input.
  8. Execute commissioning plans and maintain relevant documentation.
  9. Prioritize safety in all aspects of work and design.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Typically, six or more years of related experience including design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Broad mechanical engineering experience in areas such as tank and vessel design, machine design, or pumps and piping system design.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards like ASME 31.3 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design software such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Ability to lead design teams and external firms, and produce engineering documentation using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication with site operations and maintenance teams.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Experience with Pipe Stress Analysis using Caesar II.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics tools.
  • Experience in designing and constructing chemical manufacturing facilities involving acids, bases, and solvents for energetic materials production.
