Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer | Space Hardware
Work Arrangement: On-site
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Opportunity
We're working with an early-stage space technology company developing advanced mechanical hardware for spacecraft, robotic systems, and future space infrastructure.
Following continued growth across its engineering teams, the business is looking to appoint several experienced Mechanical Engineers across different technical specialisms, including mechanical design, structures, mechanisms, and robotics.
These opportunities would suit engineers who enjoy taking ownership of complex hardware, working through challenging technical problems, and remaining closely involved throughout the full product development lifecycle.
The Role
Depending on your technical background and experience, you could be responsible for:
- Leading mechanical design and development from initial concepts and requirements through detailed design, manufacturing, integration, and qualification.
- Designing complex mechanical assemblies, structures, and electromechanical systems for demanding aerospace applications.
- Producing detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analyses.
- Performing engineering calculations, technical trade studies, and structural or mechanical analysis.
- Working closely with manufacturing, electrical, thermal, and software engineers to develop integrated hardware.
- Supporting prototype builds, hardware testing, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
- Taking technical ownership of critical components or subsystems, with opportunities to influence wider engineering decisions.
We are particularly interested in engineers with experience in one or more of the following areas:
Mechanical Design & Structures
- Primary and secondary structures, lightweight assemblies, and load-bearing hardware.
- Structural analysis, FEA, vibration, shock, fatigue, and mechanical qualification.
Mechanisms & Actuation
- Precision mechanisms, actuators, gearboxes, bearings, hinges, linkages, and deployable systems.
- Mechanical motion systems, drivetrain design, friction, backlash, and reliability.
- Mechanical systems for rovers, robotic vehicles, or other autonomous platforms.
- Electromechanical integration, mechanisms, and hardware developed for extreme operating environments.
You do not need experience across every specialism. We are recruiting across several positions and are interested in engineers who bring particular strength in one or more of these areas.
What We're Looking For
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Spacecraft, satellite, launch vehicle, or aerospace hardware development.
- Strong experience designing and developing complex mechanical hardware.
- Proficiency with professional CAD software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
- A good understanding of mechanical analysis, engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.
- Experience taking hardware through design, prototyping, manufacturing, integration, or testing.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to solve technical problems independently.
- Experience taking ownership of designs and working effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
What's on Offer
- Multiple opportunities across senior and principal-level mechanical engineering.
- Significant technical ownership within a growing space technology company.
- Opportunities to work on complex flight hardware from early development through testing and qualification.
- Close collaboration with experienced engineers across several disciplines.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Retirement benefits, paid time off, and paid holidays.
- Competitive equity available.
Export Control Requirements
This position involves access to technology subject to US export controls, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Employment is subject to eligibility to access the relevant technology in accordance with applicable regulations, including any required government authorization.
