Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory in Idaho Falls seeks a Principal Materials Engineer to lead the Materials Fabrication Facility's laboratory engineering efforts. You will deliver quality work across heat treatment, rolling/forming, alloy development, and chemical processing for metals, coordinating lab requests and engaging stakeholders.

The role includes overseeing preventive maintenance, facility systems, and MDL property coordination, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Experience in materials science or engineering environments.
• Knowledge of heat treatment, alloy development, metal working, and chemical processing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer the laboratory work request process and lead pre-job briefs.
• Interact with stakeholders during planning and execution.
• Oversee laboratory equipment preventive maintenance including pressure systems inspections.
• Maintain facility systems supporting the laboratory and craft preventive maintenance.
• Procurement of equipment and vendor maintenance support.
• MDL Property Coordinator responsibilities.
• Some travel may be required.
