Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Texas seeks a Maintenance/Facilities Technician to maintain plant facilities and equipment onsite, driving safety, quality, and efficiency.

This role requires hands-on skills across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, with strong problem-solving abilities and a focus on continuous improvement. Candidates should have 10+ years of experience, be able to work with various teams, and document maintenance activities accurately.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in general maintenance or facility maintenance.
• Working knowledge of maintenance lift equipment, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
• Understand lockout / tagout procedures.
• Knowledgeable in HVAC operation, maintenance, and system components.
• Knowledgeable in cutting, grinding, welding, and fabrication.
• Proven troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Working knowledge of Oil/water separator systems and maintenance.
• Collaborate with Planner / Scheduler to optimize preventative maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of electricity and electrical systems (AC/DC, relays, switches, fuses, breakers, motors).
• Team player with customer service focus and commitment to continuous improvement.

Interacts with different levels of inter-organizational personnel, vendors, and consultants. This position directly reports to the Facility Operations and Planning Manager.

What you will do

• Use hand and power tools as well as other equipment to perform carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pipefitting, painting, HVAC and other repairs and maintenance.
• Knowledge in the use and application of complex electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment.
• Perform regular preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on facility and production equipment and systems.
• Adheres to established industry and enterprise standards, policies and practices relating to safety, quality, schedule, cost, accounting, purchasing and regulatory compliance in performing assigned duties.
• Participate in the implementation of Continuous Improvements (CI) projects, space planning projects and capital projects.
• Possess skills in more complex areas such as welding/soldering, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and preventative maintenance operations.
• Willing to train less experienced technicians.
• Accurately document maintenance activities and complete work orders in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
• Conducts and completes on-the-job training and technical self-study programs for career development.

What you will have

• Working knowledge of maintenance lift equipment, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
• Respond to service requests with little or no supervision and direction without interrupting operations.
• Understanding of lockout / tagout procedures.
• Knowledgeable of in all aspects of HVAC operation, maintenance, and system components.
• Knowledgeable in all aspects of cutting, grinding, welding, and fabrication.
• Proven troubleshooting skills encompassing mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Working understanding and knowledge of Oil/water separator systems and maintenance.
• Work with Planner / Scheduler to optimize preventative maintenance procedures and document maintenance activities.
• Working knowledge of electricity and electrical systems (AC/DC systems, relays, switches, fuses, breakers, motors)
• Team player with passion for customer service, problem solving, learning and continuous improvement.
• Maintain a safe work environment by documenting and correcting potential safety issues and complying with all safety regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Office Applications.

What will set you apart

• Deep understanding and expertise in specific fields of facilities and maintenance such as plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, & air conditioning), and/or maintenance of building infrastructures.
• Proficient in safely handling voltages ranging from 4 – 20 milliamps up to 600 volts AC, along with expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing electric motors and components.
• Familiarity with modern construction, building codes and practices.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and building drawings and schematics.
• Identify, specify, source and order supplies and equipment.
• Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) systems.
• Working knowledge of Building Management system software (Web Control).

Summary Pay Range

$65,454.00 - $98,182.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
