Overview

Posting Summary

Rutgers University is seeking a Principal Laboratory Technician for the Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine and Science (RITMS). RITMS, established in 2016, bridges basic and clinical research, focusing on developing safer therapeutics. The technician will join the Burdo Laboratory to study HIV infection in the nervous system and heart using human and animal models. Responsibilities include performing experiments, data analysis, maintaining SOPs, operating lab equipment, and reporting progress to the PI.

Key duties include:

  • Cell culture: media prep, cell isolation, transfections, maintenance
  • Immunological assays: staining, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry
  • Molecular biology: RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, western blots
  • Data analysis for publications and grants
  • Managing biospecimen repository and shipping biological samples
  • Maintaining lab equipment and scheduling repairs

Minimum Education & ExperienceAssociate degree with 1+ years lab experience; degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, immunology, molecular biology, virology, or related field.
Certifications/LicensesNot specified
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesProficiency in basic assays like RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, western blot, ELISAs; strong communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
Preferred QualificationsExperience with HIV, virology, or immunology preferred.
Equipment UtilizedCell culture hoods, centrifuges, electrophoresis, flow cytometry, microscopes, histopathology equipment, ddPCR, qPCR, and others.
