Job summary

RE Partners is seeking an experienced Principal Java Engineer to join our high-performing engineering team, delivering low-latency, high-throughput backend systems for payments processing. This hybrid role is based in New York, with modern tech stack and a culture that values performance, opinionated design, and ownership.

You will design and optimize Java services, build RESTful APIs, work with AWS, OpenShift, and Kubernetes, and mentor peers while driving best practices across the software

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Java development with focus on performance and memory optimization.
• Proficient with MongoDB, Spring, and microservice architectures.
• Experience in low-latency, high-throughput applications (sub-millisecond times a plus).
• Hands-on deployment on OpenShift and/or Kubernetes.
• Strong AWS experience (ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3).
• Clear communication and decisive, opinionated design.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize low-latency backend systems in Java.
• Build RESTful APIs and microservices powering payments workflows.
• Deploy, monitor, and scale on OpenShift and AWS.
• Integrate with NoSQL/SQL data stores for real-time data.
• Coordinate with DevOps, Product, and QA for production-grade solutions.
• Drive performance tuning and observability improvements.
