Job summary

RE Partners is seeking an experienced Principal Java Engineer to join our high performing engineering team, focusing on low latency, high throughput backend systems in the payments domain. You will design, develop, and optimize Java services, build RESTful APIs, and drive architectural decisions in a collaborative but opinionated culture.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in Java with Spring Boot, hands-on OpenShift/Kubernetes, AWS, and MongoDB experience, plus mentorship and observability

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Java development with a focus on performance and memory optimization.
• Proficiency with Mongo, Spring and microservice-based architecture.
• Experience with low-latency, high-throughput applications (sub-millisecond response times is a plus).
• Hands-on experience deploying on OpenShift and/or Kubernetes, plus AWS.
• Strong communication and opinionated design mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize low-latency, high-throughput backend systems using Java.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices powering secure payment workflows.
• Deploy, monitor, and scale applications in OpenShift and AWS cloud environments.
• Collaborate with DevOps, Product, and QA to ensure production-grade solutions.
• Drive architecture changes, mentor peers, and improve observability across services.
