Job description

Job Description

Hybrid role: work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Summary

Individual contributor responsible for high‑speed interconnect solutions for next‑generation network switches and routers, requiring dense, state‑of‑the‑art frequency performance and quality. Includes both connectors and cables.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the key development engineer positioned between hardware design engineering and interconnect suppliers, managing and influencing interconnect technology roadmaps.
  • Work on pre‑NPI or pre‑product interconnect technologies to validate future solutions for system‑level designs that may be 2–5 years away.
  • Develop and execute key interconnect technology validation plans, including design and implementation of test vehicles to validate mechanical and signal‑integrity (SI) elements.
  • Collaborate with interconnect suppliers and hardware engineering on co‑development projects and design‑related problem solving, influencing internal and external stakeholders to drive design changes as needed.
  • Provide persuasive communication of trade‑offs between mechanical design, SI, FMEA, failure analysis, DOE, and simulation versus measurements.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated industry expertise: participation and leadership in consortiums, patents, technical papers, and conference presentations.
  • Broad cross‑functional expertise with hardware, mechanical, PCB, electrical (SI), thermal engineering, program and commodity management.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of industry trends and the ability to articulate a compelling, attainable vision five years out.
  • Sophisticated knowledge of variation statistics and process control related to sound design and manufacturability of new connectors.
  • Expert familiarity with industry standards for qualification and reliability.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and influencing skills.
Experience
  • Deep industry experience (15 years), including 10 years of hands‑on proficiency with high‑speed, complex interconnect (≥56 GHz, ≥100 differential pairs) hardware and successful field deployment.
  • Experience covering connectors and high‑speed cables, along with interconnect materials and mechanical/electrical trade‑offs.
  • 3D CAD modeling experience and geometric tolerance analysis; tools such as SolidWorks, ProE or equivalent.
Education

BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
