Amazon is looking for an exceptional HR leader to drive the development and implementation of the HR Strategy in support of our Global Data Center Engineering business. This role requires a progressive, data driven and customer obsessed Human Resources Leader who will have responsibility of driving organization effectiveness while implementing impactful and strategic HR programs--at scale, across a global footprint. Data Center Engineering is a compelling business to partner with: they own the design and operational availability for Amazon’s global data centers. The space spans many different engineering and operational disciplines; this includes: (1) Delivering globally scaled project-based data center designs, inclusive of all mechanical, electrical, structural, and security systems. (2) Providing Field Engineering support at data centers, and “Edge” sites used for networking and content delivery. (3) Designing, delivering, and sustaining innovative infrastructure products which increase availability. (4) Deliver power solutions that improve our ability to deliver capacity at scale. (5) Retrofitting and improving the existing fleet to enable the highest levels of availability. (6) Managing key operational availability programs, including planned and un-planned maintenance activities; as well as the establishment of equipment specific reliability and quality performance standards, and proactive partnership with equipment providers to perform root cause analyses and drive performance to these standards.

The Principal HR Business Partner is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full cycle Human Resources. Based in Seattle, WA, this role will be a part of a fun, passionate and dynamic global HR and business team and requires strong team collaboration. This role is critical in executing our people initiatives by providing great internal customer support and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement. Successful candidates will also demonstrate:

  1. The ability to understand business goals and recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity and development of HR within the company.
  2. A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
  3. Experience with rapid and complex changing work environment.
  4. Coaching and mentoring at all management levels.
  5. Success in creating and driving effective development, employee relations, retention and reward programs.
  6. Being an enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment.
  7. The ability to think big but also not be afraid to "roll up your sleeves."
  8. A strong solutions focus and be comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverables along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Work with executive leaders to develop and implement HR plans and solutions.
  2. Define HR goals that are based on business drivers and ensuring HR is always looking for underlying people issues to help solve business challenges.
  3. Earn trust as a partner to the Data Center Engineering leadership globally.
  4. Partner with business on organizational design, workforce planning, succession planning, and skills assessment and development.
  5. Provide management coaching to senior leaders.
  6. Review and analyze business metrics including data on retention and employee experience in order to recommend systemic improvements.
  7. Partner with the business to lead both annual and mid-year review processes which focus on performance management and talent development.
  8. Provide compensation support including salary planning, approval of salary actions, promotions and job re-leveling.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor’s Degree required in Human Resources Management or related field.
  2. 7+ years in an HR leadership role with broad knowledge and experience in human resource management.
  3. 3+ years HR experience in a high tech environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's Degree in Human Resources Management or related field is preferred.
  2. Able to travel, as needed.
  3. Experience working with a global team.
  4. Experience assessing management and executive talent.
  5. Broad experience and specific knowledge of human resource theory, including employee relations, development and performance appraisal systems.
