Job summary

ECS Group of Companies (ECS) is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Charlotte, NC team. You will provide regional technical leadership, serving as a primary technical authority and mentoring engineers, technicians, and PMs across projects in public infrastructure, commercial, industrial, and data center sectors.

You will oversee reports and designs, ensure accuracy, and support business development while collaborating with senior leadership to guide growth of our transportation

Qualifications

• 12+ years of geotechnical and transportation engineering experience.
• PE license is required; PG license may be acceptable depending on state requirements.
• Expertise with DOT Geotechnical Design Manual (GDM) and AASHTO LRFD specifications.

Responsibilities

• Serve as final technical reviewer and signatory for geotechnical reports, designs, plans and analyses.
• Oversee development of geotechnical reports and design packages with Engineer of Record seal.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, technicians, designers, and PMs to support growth.
• Lead complex designs for slope stability, foundations, retaining structures, and settlement evaluations.
• Direct field exploration activities including drilling, test pits, and site inspections.
• Drive business development by attending client meetings and identifying growth opportunities.
