Job summary

Fidelity Investments’ Charitable Technology group in Durham is seeking a Principal Full Stack Software Engineer to lead architectural direction and engineering excellence across teams, mentoring senior engineers and shaping best practices.

You will collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable, accessible solutions, drive continuous delivery, and codify standards through design and code reviews.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of hands-on full stack development experience.
• 3–5 years of technical leadership experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in back-end technologies (Spring Boot) and/or front-end technologies (Angular TypeScript).
• Strong knowledge of Java and Spring framework.
• Solid understanding of SQL and ORM tools such as Hibernate.
• Proficient in JavaScript and AngularJS.
• Proven expertise in applying software engineering architecture and design patterns (object-oriented, functional, REST).
• Familiarity with SASS/SCSS and building applications with accessibility in mind.
• Exemplary collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
• Strong hands-on contributor with clean, unit-tested, maintainable code.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and promoting best practices.
• Experience focusing on accessibility using assistive tools.
• Passion for CI and CD practices.
• Experience with Oracle and MongoDB databases.
• Experience with AWS and other cloud platforms.
• Working knowledge of Docker, NgRx, and RxJS is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

The Role

Fidelity’s Charitable Technology group is adding a Principal Full Stack Software Engineer to our Durham regional campus. In this role, you'll serve as a technical leader and strategic influencer and drive architectural direction and engineering excellence across teams. With your deep expertise in modern development practices, object-oriented design, and design patterns, you'll lead complex initiatives spanning the full software development lifecycle. As a Principal Engineer, you'll be recognized for your ability to scale impact beyond individual contributions, by mentoring senior engineers, shaping best practices, and partnering across the organization to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions that drive business outcomes.

The Expertise And Skills You Bring

• Proficient in JavaScript and AngularJS

• Familiarity with SASS/SCSS and building applications with accessibility in mind
• Exemplary collaboration skills, working effectively with product owners, business analysts, software architects, software engineers, and quality engineers
• Strong hands‑on technical contributor with experience producing clean, unit‑tested, and maintainable code
• Experience mentoring junior engineers, defining coding standards, and promoting best practices
• Experience focusing on accessibility using screen readers and other assistive tools
• Passion for continuous integration and continuous delivery practices
• Experience with Oracle and MongoDB databases
• Experience with AWS and other cloud computing platforms

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model

Fidelity is transitioning to a full‑time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles.
