Job summary

Butterfly Network, Inc. in New York City seeks a Principal Full Stack Engineer to build and evolve our Enterprise Clinical workflows system and Butterfly Cloud.

You will solve distributed systems challenges, design scalable cloud software, and mentor engineers while collaborating with teams to deliver robust, compliant solutions for millions of physicians. The role offers a hybrid work model with in-person collaboration in NYC and the possibility of remote arrangements within the United States,

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience solving distributed systems/web development problems.
• A track record of mentoring engineers.
• Willingness to work in different layers of the stack and unfamiliar problem domains.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• GraphQL and related frameworks (Relay, Apollo, URQL).
• Experience with LLMs and MLOps.
• Containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, ECS, EKS).
• Web apps with live updates (pub/sub like Redis), WebSockets.
• Observability solutions using modern monitoring, logging, and metrics tools.
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript.
• OpenSearch or Lucene-based search engines.
• HIPAA, PHI, and PII compliance.

Responsibilities

• Solve distributed systems problems, designing for elasticity, reliability, performance, and automated validation.
• Build modern solutions using cloud architecture and scalable distributed systems knowledge.
• Own business problems, shape ideas into system designs, and lead developers through execution.
• Mentor and lead other engineers to achieve our goals.
• Perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities.
