Northern Trust in Chicago seeks an experienced API/Java microservices engineer to design, develop, and deploy robust API services. You will apply modern microservices patterns, secure interfaces, and collaborate with architects, product owners, QA, and DevOps to deliver reliable solutions.

The role emphasizes CI/CD, documentation, and close cross-functional teamwork. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in Azure Cloud, Terraform, Java/Spring Boot, OAuth2/JWT/mTLS, and OpenAPI specifications,

Qualifications

• Experience with/in Azure Cloud (APIM, Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL, Key Vault, ADLS/Blob Storage, Azure Log Analytics, Azure Functions).
• Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.
• Java Spring Boot microservices.
• Building API services using OAuth2, JWT API Keys or Mutual TLS.
• DevOps tools using Git or CI/CD.
• OpenAPI and JSON specifications.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, and implementing APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Applying microservices architecture patterns with clear service boundaries.
• Implementing security for APIs and microservices (auth, authorization, data protection).
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements and ensure integration.
• Monitoring performance, fixing issues, and ensuring operational status.
• Creating and maintaining documentation for APIs, microservices, and processes.
• Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for builds, tests, and deployments.

• Working closely with cross-functional teams (architects, product owners, QA, DevOps) to define requirements, design solutions, and ensure seamless integration.
• Monitoring the performance of APIs and microservices, identifying and resolving issues, and ensuring they are operational.
• Creating and maintaining clear and comprehensive documentation for APIs, microservices, and related processes.
• Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to automate builds, testing, and deployments.

Salary Range

$137,400 - 233,600 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
