Principal Firmware Engineer – Fully Implantable Medical Device - Onsite – Minneapolis, Minnesota

We’re supporting a confidential medical device company developing a fully implanted system for hearing restoration—a truly first-of-its-kind technology that’s already in pivotal trials. They’re now looking for a Principal Firmware Engineer to lead embedded development efforts on this complex Class III system.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for an active implantable medical device
• Lead firmware-level V&V, root cause investigations, and technical documentation
• Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams
• Own key firmware components that interface with clinical tools and external applications
• Support test planning, traceability, and design control compliance

What You Bring:

• 7+ years of embedded firmware experience (ideally in regulated medical devices)
• Proficiency with bare metal or RTOS environments, BLE, USB, I2C, and SPI
• Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 14708, and rigorous development/documentation processes
• Experience working in FDA-regulated or MDR-compliant environments
• A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to lead and mentor others

Bonus Points:

• Background in neurostimulation or hearing-related implantable technologies
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for embedded systems
• Experience with tools like C#, Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, Git, Jira, Jama
