Westinghouse Electric Company in Columbia, SC is seeking a Principal Facilities Engineer to provide senior technical leadership and mechanical engineering support for DEPM activities at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility.

You will be a technical authority, mentor engineers and lead multi-discipline teams on facility systems, with an on-site presence and a flexible 9/80 hybrid schedule that allows one remote day per week.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in facility systems, design and leadership.
• BS degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
• Familiarity with power industry, manufacturing, chemical plant or automation systems.
• Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, B31.3 criteria.
• Ability to act as technical authority and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead resolution of complex technical issues for CFFF and direct design/plant modification projects.
• Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams on design, analysis, and evaluation of facility systems.
• Apply engineering codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, API) to design and analysis.
• Develop calculations and reports documenting results to code requirements.
• Conduct field walkdowns, construction oversight, and testing support.
• Lead procurement engineering and part optimization for projects.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems and support cross-discipline coordination.
• Present technical materials in customer and vendor discussions.

About the role:

As a Principal Facilities Engineer you will provide senior technical leadership and facilities mechanical engineering support for Design Engineering and Plant Modification (DEPM) activities at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF). You will serve as a technical authority and mentor for facilities mechanical engineering work. This role serves as a key on-site presence at the Columbia location.

You will report to the Facilities Support Lead/Supervisory Engineer and be located at Columbia, SC. An Operations workplace persona is offered, allowing employees to work from home one day per week, or one day every other week when utilizing the optional 9/80 schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the resolution of complex technical issues for the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF) and provide technical direction for design engineering and plant modification projects
• Lead and collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams in the design, analysis, and evaluation of facility systems
• Apply engineering principles and engineering codes and standards like ASME and ANSI, to the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems
• Develop calculations and reports to document design and analysis results following ASME Section VIII, IX, and X code requirements, API, other international codes, and facility standards and specifications
• Conduct field walkdowns and construction oversight services
• Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and startup/commissioning services for equipment and systems
• Apply procurement engineering and part optimization techniques to engineering projects.
• Diagnoses and troubleshoot problems with existing equipment.
• Work with engineers in other disciplines such as electrical/I&C and civil/structural and EH&S.
• Participate in project teams with internal and external representation.
• Lead customer and vendor technical discussions and present technical materials,

Qualifications:

• 10 or more years of progressive engineering experience, including experience in facility systems, engineering design, and technical leadership
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical (preferred), Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
• Familiarity with the power industry, manufacturing, chemical plant or instrumentation & controls and automation systems
• Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3 criteria
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical authority, lead complex engineering decisions, mentor engineers, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders and leadership
• Able to understand applicable NRC and OSHA standards and regulations.
