Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Principal Facilities Engineer to provide senior technical leadership and facilities mechanical engineering support for DEPM at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in Columbia, SC. You will serve as a technical authority and mentor for facilities mechanical engineering work on-site.

This role reports to the Facilities Support Lead and is located at Columbia, SC with an Operations workplace persona allowing home-based days on a 9/80 schedule.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience
  • Experience in facility systems design and technical leadership
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, B31.3 criteria

Responsibilities

  • Lead resolution of complex technical issues for CFFF and provide direction for design engineering and plant modification projects
  • Lead and collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams in design, analysis, and evaluation of facility systems
  • Apply engineering principles and codes (ASME, ANSI, API) to design, analysis and evaluation of systems
  • Develop calculations and reports documenting design and analysis per code requirements
  • Conduct field walkdowns and construction oversight services
  • Support factory/site acceptance testing and startup/commissioning services
  • Apply procurement engineering and part-optimization techniques to projects
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing equipment
  • Collaborate with electrical/I&C and civil/structural and EH&S engineers
  • Participate in project teams and lead customer/vendor technical discussions

About the role:

As a Principal Facilities Engineer you will provide senior technical leadership and facilities mechanical engineering support for Design Engineering and Plant Modification (DEPM) activities at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF). You will serve as a technical authority and mentor for facilities mechanical engineering work. This role serves as a key on-site presence at the Columbia location.

You will report to the Facilities Support Lead/Supervisory Engineer and be located at Columbia, SC. An Operations workplace persona is offered, allowing employees to work from home one day per week, or one day every other week when utilizing the optional 9/80 schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical issues for the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF) and provide technical direction for design engineering and plant modification projects
  • Lead and collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams in the design, analysis, and evaluation of facility systems
  • Apply engineering principles and engineering codes and standards like ASME and ANSI, to the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems
  • Develop calculations and reports to document design and analysis results following ASME Section VIII, IX, and X code requirements, API, other international codes, and facility standards and specifications
  • Conduct field walkdowns and construction oversight services
  • Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and startup/commissioning services for equipment and systems
  • Apply procurement engineering and part optimization techniques to engineering projects.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoot problems with existing equipment.
  • Work with engineers in other disciplines such as electrical/I&C and civil/structural and EH&S.
  • Participate in project teams with internal and external representation.
  • Lead customer and vendor technical discussions and present technical materials,
Qualifications:
  • 10 or more years of progressive engineering experience, including experience in facility systems, engineering design, and technical leadership
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical (preferred), Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Familiarity with the power industry, manufacturing, chemical plant or instrumentation & controls and automation systems
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3 criteria
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical authority, lead complex engineering decisions, mentor engineers, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders and leadership
  • Able to understand applicable NRC and OSHA standards and regulations.
