Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC in Columbia, SC is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to lead major manufacturing programs, develop new processes, and qualify new equipment. This role reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and is located 100% onsite in Columbia, SC.

The candidate will coordinate cross-functional teams, analyze manufacturing capabilities, and drive continuous improvement to optimize production metrics. Nuclear exposure is desired but not required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 6+ years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Nuclear experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead coordination across departments to meet project scope, schedule, and capital targets.
  • Propose and renew business opportunities; represent Westinghouse publicly.
  • Prepare technical papers and present to customers and stakeholders.
  • Interface with management and staff on manufacturing capabilities and schedules.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to improve COPQ, OEE, and productivity.
  • Leverage brazing, laser/spot welding, heat treatment and CNC capabilities as needed.

About the role:

As a Principal Manufacturing Engineer you will assume lead technical responsibility for development and administration of one or more major manufacturing programs, systems or activities. This includes the specifications of new process, design, development, installation and qualification of new equipment. This also includes supporting equipment design upgrades to current equipment to improve equipment use and optimization.

You will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and be located at Columbia, SC. You will support this position 100% onsite

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take leadership role in coordinating efforts of working departments to implement project scope, schedule and meet capital spending targets. Analyze and recommend use of technological innovations in material, machinery, manufacturing and processing techniques to solve complex manufacturing problems.
  • Analyze and make proposals, renew business opportunities and plant or division strategic plans. Represent Westinghouse in professional society or industry trade associations.
  • Prepare technical papers and make formal presentations to customers and others.
  • Confer with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement projects to influence key metrics such as COPQ, OEE, and productivity.
  • Familiarity with the following is highly desired:
    • Brazing
    • Laser welding
    • Spot welding
    • Heat treating operations
    • FANUC CNC equipment
    • Cognex vision systems
    • Machine design
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 6+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Nuclear is desired but not required
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
