About DynaChrg
DynaChrg develops intelligent EV charging and energy‑management technology for charge point operators, property owners, fleets, utilities, and public‑sector customers. Our EVES™ platform enables multi‑vendor charger management, real‑time monitoring, charging transactions, remote operations, energy optimization, dynamic charging control, and grid‑aware services.
Position Summary
DynaChrg is seeking a senior‑level EV charging engineer with deep, hands‑on experience integrating commercial EV charging equipment with Charging Station Management Systems (CSMS) using OCPP.
This role owns the charger‑facing technical integration layer of DynaChrg's EVES™ platform, including evaluating, onboarding, integrating, qualifying, validating, and supporting commercial AC Level 2 and DC fast‑charging equipment across multiple manufacturers.
The ideal candidate has personally worked with:
- Commercial EVSE hardware
- Charger firmware and configuration
- OCPP communications
- CSMS/backend connectivity
- Charger interoperability and networking
- EVSE qualification and validation
- OEM technical integration
- Production troubleshooting
This is a systems integration and interoperability role—not an EV charging construction, installation, or electrical‑infrastructure design role.
Mandatory Experience
- 5+ years of relevant professional engineering, systems integration, EV charging product, or technical product experience.
- Minimum 3 years of direct, hands‑on professional EVSE-to-CSMS integration experience in commercial EV charging.
- Deep hands‑on professional experience with OCPP 1.6J, including analyzing and troubleshooting charger‑to‑CSMS message flows.
- Experience with commercial AC Level 2 and/or DC fast chargers.
- Experience reviewing and troubleshooting OCPP messages, charger logs, CSMS/backend logs, telemetry, protocol traces, and/or network traffic.
- Ability to diagnose problems across charger hardware, firmware, configuration, networking, OCPP, and CSMS/backend behavior.
- Experience with EVSE interoperability testing, qualification, validation, or production support.
- Experience working directly with EVSE OEM engineering/technical teams.
- Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Calabasas, California, or relocate to the Greater Los Angeles area.
Important Experience Distinction
Experience primarily in EV charging site deployment, charger installation, construction, electrical design, utility coordination, power systems, load calculations, site assessments, or general commissioning does NOT substitute for direct EVSE-to-CSMS/OCPP integration experience.
General software, telecommunications, IoT, battery‑storage, or automotive EV experience without professional commercial EVSE integration experience also does not meet the core requirement.
We specifically need an engineer who has personally worked inside the charger‑to‑CSMS integration layer and can determine why a charger and backend are not behaving as expected.
Key Responsibilities
OCPP & CSMS Integration
- Lead integration of commercial EVSE with DynaChrg's EVES™ platform.
- Configure, validate, and troubleshoot OCPP 1.6J communications.
- Support and expand OCPP 2.0.1 integrations.
- Analyze charger‑to‑CSMS message flows and expected versus actual charger behavior.
- Troubleshoot OCPP functionality including BootNotification, Heartbeat, Authorize, Start/StopTransaction, TransactionEvent, StatusNotification, MeterValues, remote commands, configuration, diagnostics, firmware management, charging profiles, and fault handling.
- Review OCPP messages, charger/backend logs, telemetry, protocol traces, and network captures.
- Identify charger‑specific OCPP deviations, firmware limitations, configuration issues, and interoperability constraints.
- Reproduce integration/production issues and perform root‑cause analysis.
- Document known issues, workarounds, firmware/configuration requirements, and OEM escalation paths.
EVSE Equipment & OEM Integration
- Evaluate commercial AC Level 2 and DC fast chargers for EVES™ compatibility.
- Lead technical onboarding of new charger manufacturers, models, and firmware releases.
- Review charger hardware, firmware, configuration, communications, networking, metering, security, and backend requirements.
- Define approved firmware versions, configurations, network settings, and integration requirements.
- Work directly with charger OEM engineering teams to resolve technical and interoperability issues.
- Evaluate firmware releases before production approval.
Interoperability, Qualification & Validation
- Develop and execute EVSE qualification and interoperability test plans.
- Perform hands‑on validation of charger models and firmware.
- Validate normal, abnormal, recovery, and OCPP behavior.
- Reproduce field issues and perform regression testing after firmware, configuration, or backend changes.
- Maintain test evidence, issue logs, acceptance criteria, and qualification records.
- Develop repeatable charger onboarding and validation procedures.
Networking & Secure Communications
Troubleshoot charger‑to‑backend connectivity involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, NAT, firewalls, VPN, Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, cellular/LTE/5G, and SIM/eSIM connectivity.
Support secure communications involving HTTPS, TLS/mTLS, digital certificates, trust chains, and PKI‑related EVSE configuration.
Determine whether connectivity failures originate from the charger, local network, cellular provider, security configuration, DNS/routing environment, or backend.
Production Troubleshooting
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex EVSE integration and interoperability issues.
- Diagnose problems involving charger hardware, firmware, configuration, networking, OCPP, and CSMS/backend behavior.
- Perform root‑cause analysis using charger logs, OCPP traffic, backend telemetry, network captures, and other diagnostics.
- Coordinate corrective action between DynaChrg engineering teams and charger manufacturers.
- Identify recurring issues and recommend firmware, configuration, software, testing, or operational improvements.
Field Commissioning Support
This role may support charger commissioning and field troubleshooting when necessary, including validating charger‑to‑EVES connectivity, firmware/configuration, charging sessions, transaction/meter data, remote commands, fault reporting, and backend communications.
Field deployment is not the primary function of this role.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Embedded Systems, or closely related technical discipline. Equivalent technical education may be considered with substantial commercial EVSE experience.
- 5+ years relevant professional experience.
