Job summary

Mott MacDonald seeks an experienced Principal Engineer to lead stormwater and flood risk services across New Jersey, New York, and Eastern Pennsylvania. You will guide complex projects, advise clients, and mentor staff while delivering resilient infrastructure and climate-focused solutions.

The role requires deep hydrology/hydraulics expertise, strong regulatory knowledge, and a track record of large-scale flood mitigation work. Hybrid in-office collaboration is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in NJ; NY or PA preferred.
• Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in stormwater, drainage, CSO and flood risk engineering.
• Advanced experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling across complex systems.
• Strong understanding of NJDEP, NYSDEC, and PADEP regulatory requirements.
• Experience leading complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Willing to travel to project sites and attend key meetings.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of stormwater and flood management projects.
• Lead hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XP-SWMM.
• Lead permitting with NJDEP, NYSDEC, PADEP and FEMA coordination.
• Act as primary liaison with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
• Deliver programs like flood mitigation and resilience projects.
• Mentor staff and support business development.
