Job summary

Baxter is seeking a Principal Engineer, Software R&D to design, develop, and maintain scalable .NET applications and services. You will work across product teams to define requirements and deliver robust RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of .NET experience, strong SQL Server skills, and hands-on ORM and cloud (Azure/AWS) work. You will mentor peers and promote CI/CD and agile practices in a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

Your Role at Baxter

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining software applications using the .NET framework. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet our clients’ needs. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous learning.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable applications and services using C# and the .NET framework.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, developers, and stakeholders to define technical requirements and solution designs.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and GraphQL services that support modern application and integration needs.
• Write clean, maintainable, and high-quality code following established software engineering principles and best practices.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and contribute to the continuous improvement of development standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex software defects, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.
• Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to support modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD and automated testing.
• Mentor and guide team members while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

What You'll Bring:

• 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on the .NET ecosystem, including C#, Web APIs, and modern application development practices.
• Strong experience designing, developing, and optimizing applications using SQL Server or other relational database technologies.
• Experience building and consuming HTTP-based services, including RESTful APIs and GraphQL architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with Object Relational Mapping (ORM) technologies such as Entity Framework, Dapper, or similar data access frameworks.
• Experience building and supporting cloud-based solutions within Microsoft Azure and/or AWS environments.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and scalable application design principles.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience working effectively in Agile environments and contributing to technical leadership initiatives.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $120,000-$165,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
