Your Career

We are seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to join our Cortex backend engineering team. You will be at the forefront of cloud security innovation, designing, developing, and maintaining core backend infrastructure for Palo Alto Networks' Cortex Cloud Platform and its Cloud Security Posture features, directly impacting customer cloud security environments. We value candidates with a can-do attitude, passion for complex problems, and a desire to bring value to thousands of customers.

Your Impact

• Work across team boundaries
• Lead projects from requirements to design and implementation
• Align stakeholders including product management, UX design, and engineering teams
• Review designs, identify and mitigate risks for smooth project execution
• Mentor engineers across the department
• Collaborate and consult across teams
• Design, build, and optimize data models and queries for speed and scale using technologies like MySQL and BigQuery

Qualifications

Your Experience

• 7+ years in software engineering, focusing on cloud application development in large organizations or startups
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java
• Experience with distributed systems architecture and design
• Knowledge of cloud technologies such as ElasticSearch and Pubsub
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Experience with cloud development, REST APIs, databases, serverless computing
• Experience building scalable services and microservices architectures
• Understanding of public cloud design considerations, security, global infrastructure, and load balancing
• Experience as a hands-on technical lead or architect
• Data-driven decision-making and a proactive attitude
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively
• UI development experience with React or Angular is a plus
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field

Additional Information

Compensation Disclosure

Salary range: $147,000 - $237,500/year, depending on qualifications and location. Compensation may include stock units and bonuses. For more details, see our benefits.
