Jabil, a global engineering and manufacturing partner, seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer – MV in Prince George, VA. You will serve as the senior technical authority for MV power distribution across programs, guiding design governance, validation, and lifecycle support from concept to production.
The role requires leadership, MV protection/coordination expertise, IEC/IEEE standard knowledge, and experience with ETAP/SKM/EasyPower.

The Principal Electrical Engineer – Medium Voltage (MV) serves as the senior technical authority for the electrical architecture, design governance, validation strategy, industrialization, and lifecycle support of medium-voltage power distribution products and systems (1kV–38kV). This role provides cross-program technical leadership, establishes engineering standards and design practices, resolves complex technical risks, and guides product decisions from concept through production release. The Principal Engineer works closely with customers, global engineering teams, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, regulatory, suppliers, and field support organizations to ensure solutions meet customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities, safety expectations, quality objectives, cost targets, and Jabil product lifecycle processes.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Power Systems concentration preferred. 12+ years of electrical engineering experience, including significant experience in medium‑voltage switchgear, substations, power distribution, renewable energy, utility, or industrial power systems. Demonstrated senior technical leadership across multiple NPI programs, product platforms, design releases, or successful product launches. Deep expertise in MV protection relays, relay coordination, insulation coordination, BIL requirements, grounding systems, arc‑flash mitigation, electrical one‑line diagrams, control schemes, metering systems, and power system studies. Experience integrating intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), PLCs, HMIs, protection relays, power quality meters, gateway devices, and automation systems within MV switchgear and substation systems. Experience integrating MV protection, metering, automation, and monitoring systems with SCADA platforms using IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus RTU/TCP, Ethernet/IP, or similar protocols. Experience with utility interconnection requirements, grid compliance considerations, and customer‑specific technical requirements. Experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or equivalent power system analysis tools. Advanced proficiency with EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical, including electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring documentation, and configuration management. Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, IEC, NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA, UL, utility standards, insulation coordination practices, dielectric design principles, and BIL requirements applicable to MV power distribution equipment and systems. Experience with PLM systems such as Windchill or equivalent. Familiarity with OSHA electrical safety requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and electrical safe work practices. Strong ability to influence technical direction, resolve ambiguity, make risk‑based engineering decisions, and communicate effectively with customers and executive stakeholders.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related technical discipline. Experience integrating EMS, BMS, DCIM, microgrid controllers, remote monitoring platforms, and advanced energy management systems. Experience supporting global manufacturing operations, design transfers, production ramps, and engineering change implementation. Experience in data centers, industrial power, utility, renewable energy, energy storage, microgrid, or critical power markets. Lean/Six Sigma experience. Experience establishing engineering standards, design review governance, reusable technical libraries, or product platform strategies. Leadership Expectations Provide enterprise‑level MV electrical engineering guidance across programs, product platforms, and customer engagements. Lead complex MV electrical design reviews, technical risk assessments, architecture governance, and engineering decision forums throughout the product lifecycle. Mentor Lead Engineers and Senior Engineers; strengthen technical capability, design discipline, and ownership across the engineering team. Establish and continuously improve electrical engineering standards, best practices, design guidelines, verification expectations, and governance processes. Influence cross‑functional decisions by balancing technical depth, customer requirements, manufacturability, cost, quality, reliability, schedule, and compliance.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) NPI milestone achievement, technical readiness, and on‑time product launch. First‑pass qualification, validation, and certification success. Product architecture robustness, design reuse, and reduction of late‑stage technical changes. Design‑related field quality, warranty performance, and corrective action effectiveness. Product cost competitiveness, manufacturability, and margin improvement. Manufacturing readiness, design transfer effectiveness, and production ramp stability. Customer satisfaction, technical issue closure responsiveness, and quality of customer‑facing technical communication. Engineering standards adoption, technical capability development, and design governance effectiveness.
Standard full‑time position with a typical work schedule of 40 hours per week. Collaboration with global teams may occasionally require flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones. Travel up to 20% domestic and international as required. Office, laboratory, manufacturing, supplier, and customer‑site environment exposure may be required.

The pay range for this role is $126,100 - $227,000.
