Job summary

American Airlines is seeking an experienced cloud architect/engineer to lead large-scale cloud infrastructure at the DFW HQ. You will implement Kubernetes platforms on Azure and other clouds, mentor engineers, and drive IaC adoption.

You will partner with security and enterprise architecture to ensure scalable, secure cloud services and align with business goals. This role requires on-call availability and strong SDLC understanding.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher in a technical field; 9+ years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise designing large-scale cloud solutions in production.
  • Strong background in DevOps, CI/CD and GitOps methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, implement, and manage large-scale cloud infrastructure.
  • Ensure scalability, security, and resilience of platforms.
  • Mentor engineers on cloud best practices and DevOps patterns.
  • Automate infrastructure using IaC and modern cloud tech.
  • Oversee cloud solution lifecycle and communicate roadmaps.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and incident response.

What you'll do

  • Lead design, implement, and manage large-scale cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes platforms on Azure and other public cloud providers using K8s custom operators, Controllers.
  • Ensure scalability, security, and resilience.
  • Partner closely with Cybersecurity and enterprise architects to define cloud best practices. Shape and promote cloud architecture that aligns with business goals and industry standards.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to the engineering team, providing guidance on best practices, design patterns, and emerging technologies in cloud computing and DevOps using Go (Golang), Kubernetes APIs, controller-runtime, and Operator SDK/Kubebuilder.
  • Spearhead initiatives to automate infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies. Champion innovation by adopting and implementing cutting-edge cloud technologies.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of cloud solutions and platforms, ensuring they remain updated and aligned with industry standards and organizational requirements.
  • Effectively communicate product strategy, technical changes, and cloud platform roadmaps to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in requirements analysis and use case development, with a thorough understanding of software development life cycles, development and technology tools, testing methodologies, and requirements gathering
  • Monitor cloud systems for availability, performance, and cost efficiency. Implement strategies to optimize resource usage, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve cloud environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex cloud infrastructure issues. Provide expert support and conduct root cause analysis to address critical incidents, taking preventive actions to avoid future occurrences.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, supporting business-critical applications and systems.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 9+ years of experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale solutions in production environments
