Job summary

Confluent is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture and reliability of its schema and metadata governance systems within the Data Streaming Platform. You will shape long-term platform strategy, drive multi-tenant infrastructure, and ensure scalable, compliant data governance across Confluent Cloud and Confluent Platform.

You will mentor senior engineers, collaborate with product and executives, contribute to open-source efforts, and represent Confluent in technical forums, while

Qualifications

Experience leading architecture and delivery of large-scale distributed systems with company-wide impact.
Deep knowledge of fault tolerance, consistency, and scalability in cloud-native environments.
Experience with streaming or event-driven architectures and governance systems.

Responsibilities

Define and drive company‑level technical strategy for governance systems.
Architect and evolve high-performance metadata management with low-latency lookups.
Design data protection capabilities, encryption and access control, across the platform.
Build and maintain highly available, multi-tenant governance infrastructure.
Establish engineering standards and architectural patterns across teams.
Mentor senior engineers and contribute to open-source initiatives.
