Confluent is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape the long-term architecture, scalability, and reliability of our schema and metadata governance systems within the Data Streaming Platform. This role offers high autonomy to drive critical initiatives across Confluent Cloud and Confluent Platform.

You will own technical domains, set direction for governance infrastructure, and mentor senior engineers while collaborating with executives and product leaders to align technical vision with business

Qualifications

• Experience leading large-scale distributed systems with company-wide impact.
• Deep knowledge of fault tolerance, consistency, and cloud-native platforms.
• Hands-on depth with streaming or event-driven architectures and metadata governance.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive company-level technical strategy for governance systems.
• Architect metadata management with low-latency lookups and strong consistency.
• Design data protection and schema validation enforced across the platform.
• Build highly available, multi-tenant infrastructure for governance services.
• Set engineering standards and evangelize architectural patterns.
