Job summary

Confluent is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape the long-term architecture, scalability, and reliability of schema and metadata governance across the Confluent Data Streaming Platform. You will drive core layers of stream governance, ensuring multi-tenant infrastructure and high availability.

You will own company-level technical domains, set direction for critical initiatives, and influence engineering practices and product strategy while operating autonomously in ambiguous spaces.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading architecture of large distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of fault tolerance, consistency, and scalability.
• Experience with cloud-native platforms and streaming tech.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive company-level technical strategy for governance systems.
• Architect metadata management with low-latency lookups and strong consistency.
• Design data protection capabilities including encryption and access control.
• Build and maintain highly available, multi-tenant infrastructure.
• Establish engineering standards and architectural patterns.
• Collaborate with executives and product teams to align technical vision.
• Mentor senior engineers and contribute to open-source initiatives.
