Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Engineer Data to design and maintain data collection architectures for flight, lab, ground, and test programs in Melbourne, FL. Relocation assistance may be available.

Responsibilities include data engineering from planning and ICDs through test, implementation, and support, with collaboration across an IPT and with vendors and customers. A Secret clearance is required or in process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM field with 5 years' related experience, or MS with 3 years, or STEM PhD with 1 year.
  • Ability to obtain final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance within a reasonable period.

  • Optimize data collection and dissemination to existing software tools and data reduction suites.
  • Ensure data collection meets Test & Evaluation and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot bus data collection systems and related issues.
  • Collaborate within an IPT environment interfacing with leadership, suppliers and customers.

Overview

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Principal Engineer Data to join the Instrumentation & Data team. The role involves building and maintaining data collection architectures for flight, laboratory, ground, and specialty test programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of data engineering from initial data management plan and ICD development through test, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Optimize data collection and dissemination to existing software tools and data reduction suites.
  • Ensure data collection performance and delivery capabilities meet Test & Evaluation, vehicle subsystem responsible engineer, and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot bus data collection systems and system issues.
  • Collaborate within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience, or a Master of Science degree with 3 years of related experience, or a STEM Ph.D. with 1 year of related experience.
  • Ability to transfer and maintain final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in‑scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) within a reasonable period of time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ground and flight data acquisition system design and testing methodologies focused on bus data collection.
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using SysML within Cameo.
  • Experience with virtualization (VMWare or other).
  • Demonstrated experience shaping and documenting technical processes and procedures for development programs.
  • Experience developing Interface Control Documents and Supplier Statements of Work with vendors and collaborating on vendor troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work under minimal direction and independently develop solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interfacing with all levels across IPTs.
