Job summary

Woolpert is seeking a Principal Embedded Systems & Sensor Software Engineer to lead software and hardware integration for advanced sensing platforms. You will own architecture from hardware control to field deployment, working across avionics, data acquisition, and operator tools.

You will drive lab and aircraft integration, define interfaces, and mentor team members while delivering reliable, scalable software for next-generation airborne LiDAR systems. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Minimum 3 years working with embedded systems or hardware-integrated software.
• Demonstrated success leading software development for complex technical systems.
• Experience supporting products from concept through operational deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded software architectures for airborne LiDAR and imaging systems.
• Develop and maintain software supporting sensor control, data acquisition, timing and synchronization, hardware monitoring, communications interfaces, and health reporting.
• Define software requirements and system interfaces across hardware, firmware, and application layers.
• Integrate software with laser subsystems, GNSS/INS, cameras, aircraft interfaces, and data storage.
• Lead development of intuitive operator and maintenance interfaces; design for calibration procedures and diagnostics.
• Develop health monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions; automated fault reporting and root-cause analysis.
• Develop software validation and verification methodologies including environmental, hardware-in-the-loop, flight, and factory tests.
• Establish software development standards; mentor engineers; participate in roadmaps and customer demos.
