• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and public communication skills.

About The Position

St. Michael Catholic School, a PK3-8 grade school in Augusta, ME, seeks a principal who combines deep Catholic faith, substantial classroom experience, strong educational leadership, and an entrepreneurial approach to school growth. The ideal candidate is a steady, relational leader who can honor what is already strong while strategically and creatively guiding the school into a thriving future.

The principal oversees administration, facilities, and operations; manages the school's budget and operational resources in partnership with the Pastor, School Board and diocesan leadership; provides direct leadership and support for the academic program; develops and grows relationships with students, families, staff, parish, and the wider community through visible presence and effective communication; and ensures that the Catholic faith is woven throughout the life of the school.

Required Qualifications

Active, practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education and the role of a Catholic school in the evangelizing mission of the Church.

• Master's degree in education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field, or equivalent administrative certification acceptable under diocesan requirements, or working toward these aforementioned requirements
• Substantial successful K-8 classroom teaching experience
• Demonstrated leadership ability, including the capacity to inspire and develop faculty, make sound personnel decisions, and lead a school community through change and growth
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and public communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Maine schools and the Catholic school landscape in Maine, or established ties to the local region and community
• Demonstrated ability to build community through visible presence and strong relationships with families, staff, and stakeholders
• Experience with enrollment growth, development, and other initiatives that strengthen a school's long-term viability

Terms of Employment and Evaluation

• Full-time, exempt salaried position under an annual Ministerial This position reports to the Pastor of St. Michael Parish.
• Performance is evaluated annually by the Pastor in collaboration with the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
• The start date is flexible so that Michael School can prioritize the right long-term fit for the position.
• Salary range starts at $75,000/yr, dependent on experience, plus a full benefits package
