Principal, Development Engineer - Energy Savings

LOCATION

This is a remote position based in Western Tennessee / Nashville area, with up to 40% travel in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Indiana. Candidates must reside in Western Tennessee to support site visits and travel requirements. Occasional travel to Constellation offices may also be needed.

Primary Purpose Of Position

Leads the development of energy services and asset projects in Commercial, Industrial, and Federal sectors. Provides technical and financial analysis, evaluates energy-saving opportunities, builds business relationships, and supports sales and project implementation as a liaison between teams.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conduct energy audits and prepare proposals for energy conservation upgrades, including cost and savings analysis.
  • Develop preliminary designs and estimates, providing technical recommendations to customers.
  • Support sales in developing and presenting proposals.
  • Provide status reports on projects.
  • Coordinate project handovers with Project Management.
  • Implement project control processes in line with cost, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Promote safety and safe work behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field plus 8 years relevant experience in energy conservation projects.
  • Ability to develop complex energy projects.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and process systems in various building types.
  • Experience with project commissioning, proposals, vendor agreements, and contracts.
  • Experience with Federal energy programs and measurement protocols.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Teamwork, leadership, and computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, databases).
  • Valid driver’s license; may require security clearance and access to government facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE registration, CEM, or LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Experience with industry software (EnergyPlus, eQuest, Trane Trace, Helioscope, AutoCAD).
  • Experience with renewable energy projects, large prime movers, and building electrification strategies.
  • Mechanical engineering degree preferred; practical construction experience is a plus.
