Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Detection Engineer to design, develop, test, and deploy high-fidelity detections across SIEM, EDR, NDR, cloud, and identity. You will translate threat intel and hunting findings into actionable content and drive improvements.

Collaborate with Security Ops, Threat Hunting, Incident Response, and Intelligence teams, support deception initiatives, and align detections to MITRE ATT&CK.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 2+ years IT/security experience; or Cybersecurity program graduate.
• Current government security clearance or ability to obtain at least Secret level.
• 4+ years IT-related experience or 2+ years security experience, including military/government work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, validate, and deploy high-fidelity security detections across SIEM, EDR, NDR, cloud, identity, and other monitoring platforms.
• Drive telemetry enrichment, detection validation, purple team exercises, and data-driven measurement of detection effectiveness.
• Translate threat intel, threat hunting findings, and IR lessons learned into actionable detection content.
• Develop, maintain, and tune detection rules, correlation searches, and automated alerting.
