Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Detection Engineer to design, develop, and optimize advanced detection capabilities across endpoints, networks, cloud, and identity systems. You will translate threat intelligence and hunting findings into actionable content, partnering with SOC, Incident Response, and Threat Intelligence teams to strengthen AEP's cyber defense.

The role emphasizes reducing false positives, improving detection fidelity, and enabling rapid threat detection and response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or assoc. degree with relevant IT/security experience or Cybersecurity program completion.
• Relevant experience in cybersecurity operations is preferred.
• Ability to map detections to MITRE ATT&CK and demonstrate threat-based analytics.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, validate, and deploy high-fidelity detections across SIEM/EDR/NDR and cloud.
• Drive continuous improvement via telemetry enrichment and validation.
